The Scottish Society for the History of Photography was established in 1983 with a key objective in mind: we want to further interest, understanding, and pleasure in both historic and contemporary photography. We want to expand local Scottish photography and bring international talent into this community. To that end, SSHoP organises lectures, workshops, visits to private collections, launch events, and exhibitions.
The Society also publishes a bi-annual journal, Studies in Photography, as a catalyst to discourse on Scottish photography. The journal includes articles, interviews, and book reviews of Scottish and international interest, with an aim to consider both historical and contemporary practices.
We invite everybody interested in the art of photography, particularly with a Scottish emphasis, to consider joining the Society. Your support will help to promote the rich history of Scottish photography and cement contemporary Scottish photographic practices in the international scene.
